Lore & Background

The battle shattered the village's defenses and claimed the life of its strongest protector at the time. However, the arrival of the young ninja who held the Nine-Tails changed the tide. Through a confrontation that transcended mere combat, the two adversaries engaged in a clash of ideologies, forcing the attacker to confront the cycle of hatred he sought to perpetuate. The event ended with a miraculous restoration of life and a shift in the global balance of power.

In Their Own Story

The sky above Konoha turned a bruised purple as gravity warped unnaturally, crushing buildings into dust without a single footstep touching the ground. In the center of the devastation stood a figure surrounded by floating pillars, his eyes glowing with a crimson hue that saw every secret and weakness. Below him, a boy in an orange cloak stood battered but unbroken, the chakra of the beast within him burning like a second sun against the encroaching darkness.

Reader's Guide

The arc begins immediately after Jiraiya's sacrifice, as the Six Paths of Pain arrive at Konoha to interrogate Tsunade. They systematically dismantle the village's defenses, using gravity manipulation and chakra absorption to neutralize the Anbu and Jonin corps. The Third Hokage's successor is forced to reveal her location but ultimately sacrifices herself to save the villagers from total annihilation.

Naruto returns from his training with Sage Mode just as the village falls into ruin. He engages in a desperate battle against the six bodies, utilizing his new abilities to counter their unique powers. The fight culminates in a confrontation between Naruto and Nagato himself, where the young ninja refuses to kill his enemy, choosing instead to understand his pain.

The conflict concludes with Nagato using a forbidden technique to restore the lives of everyone he killed during the assault before passing away. This act of redemption leaves Konoha devastated but hopeful, leading to Kakashi's temporary appointment as Hokage and setting the stage for the final war against the Akatsuki.
